Or Durian is a popular Southeast Asian plant, which was at some point in time even banned in certain hotels and trasportation services because of its odour which lingers in the air for some time. A British naturalist later discovered that the fruit has “a rich custard highly flavoured with almonds” and the fruit has become a culinary specialty ever since – used in a wide variety of savory and sweet desserts. A common local belief is that the durian is harmful when eaten with coffee or alcoholic beverages. The latter belief can be traced back at least to the 18th century when Rumphius stated that one should not drink alcohol after eating durians as it will cause indigestion and bad breath.
