Artocarpus Heterophyllus

Or Jackfruit, with its origin from Southeast Asia. Archaeological findings in India have revealed that jackfruit was cultivated in India 3000 to 6000 years ago.

The plant bears the largest fruit of all trees, reaching up to 55kg (121lbs), 90cm (2ft) in lenght and 50cm (1ft) in diameter. A mature jack tree produces some 200 fruits per year, with older trees bearing up to 500 fruits in a year. The ripe fruit is sweet (depending on variety) and is more often used for desserts. Canned green jackfruit has a mild taste and meat-like texture that lends itself to being called a “vegetable meat”.
