Or Jabuticaba, a name interpreted to mean „like turtle fat“ (because of its white pulp) is a native tree to Brazil, which grows to the heights of even 15m (50ft), and unlike other trees, the white flowers grow straight from the trunk. Jabuticaba flowers 5-6 times in a year and the fruit, which is 3-4cm (0.5-1in) in diameter ferments 3-4 days after the harvest, and is often used to make jams, strong wines or liquers. Fresh fruits are therefore rare, since the shelf life is relatively short. It has also been cultivated as a bonsai in places like Taiwan or Caribbean, due to its slow growth.
