Commonly known as Passion fruit or Maracuya, is native to southern Brazil all the way to Paraguay and Argentina. It is a vine species of passiflora. The fruit can grow to a size of a grapefruit and the outside color of the berry ranges from dark-purple with fine white specks to light yellow. It contains around 250 seeds and the flavor is slightly acidic and musky – comparable to guava. Widely available around the country it is used for a variety of desserts or juices.
